Our Story

The Journey Behind GRSEI

GIHARO REFUGEE SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT INITIATIVE (GRSEI) was born from a simple but powerful belief: every child and young person deserves a chance to discover their potential, develop their talents, and build a better future.

Founded in Burundi, GRSEI began as a community-driven initiative responding to the challenges faced by vulnerable children, refugee youth, women, and families who needed hope, support, and opportunities for growth.

Through observing the struggles of young people affected by difficult life circumstances, GRSEI recognized the power of sports, creativity, education, and community engagement as tools to bring healing, confidence, and positive transformation.

Our Beginning

Starting with limited resources but a strong commitment to serve the community, GRSEI created safe spaces where children and youth could participate in football, creative activities, mentorship, and community programmes.

Football became more than a game — it became a way to teach discipline, teamwork, friendship, leadership, and peace.

Creative arts became more than entertainment — they became a platform where young people could express themselves, discover their talents, and dream about new possibilities.
